3 years is a long time in Social Media

by Alex Simmons 13. September 2010 14:00

Back in 2007 when social media was just starting starting to go mainstream, flowtown created a map of the social media world, where MySpace was king and youtube was just a glint in Steve Chen’s eye.

The future’s bright – the future’s cloudy

Important news relating to your website hosting

logo_clouddata In our constant efforts to offer the very best services to our clients, we’ve taken the decision to migrate our server infrastructure to a more secure, faster and safer environment. We will be utilising the cutting edge technology offered by Cloud Data, a next generation of hosting, back -up and disaster recovery. We’ve tried to anticipate a few potential questions.

What is cloud Computing

Why the change?

"If it isn’t broke, why fix it?" Well, although our current hosting solution has proved extremely reliable we felt that the advantages offered by virtualisation were too attractive to ignore.

The issue is that no hardware/software is infallible, regardless of cost or sophistication, and no data centre is immune from downtime due to power failures. For this reason Cloud Data infrastructure is spread over various geographic locations so that even in the case of a total blackout at one site, your website will back online immediately and with no manual intervention or loss of performance.

Will our website be offline or affected whilst the change is taking place ?

No, the switch will be seamless so you there will be no downtime or interruption to your current online services. Will we notice any change to our current website? The only change you may notice is that your website loads faster and of course using the Cloud system means that it will never goes down.

Will it cost more?

Although we have reviewed our hosting tariffs, none of our clients’ should be paying any more than they currently do. However, as part of the new price structure is based on the numbers of visitors your site receives you could actually end up paying less.

dcarbon8 acquired by Deloitte

by Alex Simmons 25. May 2010 14:25

Our long standing client dcarbon8 has been acquired by Deloitte, as it seeks to expand and evolve its environmental and sustainability consulting services.

The deal is of particular interest to us at Gravitate Media as we’ve been closely involved with dcarbon8 since it’s initial set up in 2005. We're justifiable proud to have played a significant part in their success story and meteoric rise as one of the UKs leading carbon and sustainability consultancies. Yet this is also tinged with a certain degree of sadness as the brand, website and related marketing collateral will overtime cease to exist as the corporate wheels spin into action and dcarbon8 become part of the Deloitte brand.

Guy Battle, founder and director of dcarbon8, commented: "The challenges facing business as the world moves towards a low carbon economy are enormous. We see the move to Deloitte as a fantastic opportunity to combine our respective skills adding the necessary depth and resource to allow us to meet the growing demands of our customers in this field."

We offer our congratulations to Guy Battle and the team at dcarbon8 and wish them continued success in the fight against climate change.

Great Illuminations

by Alex Simmons 27. January 2010 13:21

Gravitate Media has recently completed the re-vamp of the ES Lighting website. Having designed the original site over five years ago, our new design provides a perfect framework to showcase the companies latest prestigious lighting projects. The site contains a scrolling carousel showing featured work, a light box portfolio, plus a News and Media section.

The design allows the stunning photography to take centre stage by adopting a clean and contemporary style. We think that both the work and the site look beautiful. Don’t take our word for it, see for yourself:

Making it all add up...

by Alex Simmons 1. October 2009 14:16

Gravitate Media have always regarded their bean counters with some awe and reverence.

We always thought that bookkeeping and accountancy was the preserve of the dark arts. Not so... We were approached by Speed-e-books to develop a full e-commerce site to sell their highly user friendly accountancy software aimed at small to medium businesses.

Our first thoughts began somewhere along the lines of 'What do we know about bookkeeping and accounting software?' Our first stop naturally was a crash course in how to use the accountancy software and get a feel for exactly who and how we needed to pitch the brand identity development.

The process was all too easy, even for us creative bods to get our heads around and the concept and delivery for both the brand identity was both straight forward and problem and a pleasure to work on. If you’re tired of handing your big shoebox of receipts over to your accountant every year and paying for the privilege of him charging you to go through them, give this accountancy and bookkeeping software a go.
